Hi everyone!
Welcome to Lanzarote! This singular island is part of the Canary archipelago (Spain).
We arrived on Saturday 24th June. We took a direct flight from Paris Orly Airport to Arrecife, the island’s capital. We chose the company Vueling for these 3 hours and 45 minutes in the sky. The arrival occured at 16h45 local time (1-hour less than in France) on a windy afternoon! Fortunately, our pilot was a good one and managed to land safely (contrary to other flights sheduled the same day).
We booked 7 nights at Apartamento « Villa Pentagrama », Julio’s small and cosy outbuilding in their garden (AirBnB). Situated in Tahiche, at the heart of the island, their apartment is ideal to drive from north to south and from east to west 🙂
It is necessary to rent a car out there! The buses are not frequent enough and will not take you to the best spots. Driving by yourself will also allow you to avoid rush hours during your visits 😉 Our car belonged to Top Car and we easily collected the keys at the airport.
Thanks to our « Batmobile », we managed to explore a huge part of the island in 7 days, here is our journey plan:
Day 2:
- Teguise Market: mostly for tourism but gives a first overview of the island’s specialties and local craft.
- Jardín de los Cactus, which resulted from César Manrique’s work to emphasize the beauty of his birth island
- Cueva de los Verdes: a cave formed into the lava flow from the Corona volcano
- El Mirador del Río will give you an impressive view of the small island « La Graciosa », separated from Lanzarote by a tiny « corridor » of sea
- Haría, « el Valle de las Mil Palmeras » which is the most « wooded » area of the island
Day 3:
- Timanfaya National Parc, worth to visit first hour in the morning!
- El Golfo and its green lake resulting from an ancient volcano
- Los Hervideros are impressive holes into the lava cliffs, formed by erosion and hitten by the sea
- Playa del Pozo: our favorite beach! We stayed there until sunset.
Day 4:
- Playa Bajo Risco: you will have to walk down the cliff to reach this windy beach… does it worth it ? 🙂
- Los Jameos del Agua: a very peaceful and harmonious place, created by César Manrique into a lava cave. It’s worth the visit!
Day 5:
- Fundación César Manrique: former house of the island’s artist built on the lava field, turned into a museum.
- Caldera Blanca: 4 hours walk through the lava fields to explore the Caldera Blanca volcano!
Day 6:
- Monumento Al Campesino: a tribute to the local craft and traditions
- La Geria is where you can find most of the island’s vineyards.
Day 7:
- Playa Famara at the north, windswept scenery and paradise for kite-surfers
- Puerto del Carmen, one of the beach resorts of the southern island, seemed very popular
- Lagomar House, also conceived by César Manrique, offers a nice viewpoint of Teguise and the volcanos at sunset
A the end of our journey, we stopped by the island’s main city, Arrecife… before going back to the airport!
